VMware Workstation Pro Tech Preview 2023

Posted on

VMware Workstation Pro is a strong desktop virtualization software that runs several operating systems on a single PC for software developers/testers and enterprise IT professionals. Users can run Windows, Linux, NetWare, or Solaris x86 in fully networked, portable virtual computers without rebooting or partitioning their hard drives.

VMware Workstation Pro provides outstanding speed and advanced capabilities such as memory optimization and handling multi-tier settings and multiple snapshots. VMware Workstation Pro is a proven solution that improves productivity and flexibility, with millions of customers and dozens of significant product awards over the last six years. It is a must-have tool for software developers and IT workers worldwide.

What has changed?
This Application for Windows and Linux now supports the Windows 11 operating system for x86_64 CPU types.

VTP Module (Virtual Trusted Platform Module)
A Trusted Platform Module is required to support Windows 11 requirements. With this release, we have improved our Virtual TPM module by including ‘Fast Encryption,’ key auto-generation, and critical storage via Keychain with a TPM 2.0 virtual device profile compatible with Windows 11 system requirements. Of course, a vTPM device can be added to any VM, but that VM must be encrypted in either Full or Fast mode.

Rapid Encryption
Only the most necessary bits of the virtual machine’s local storage space are encrypted in the new ‘rapid encryption’ mode, significantly boosting overall VM performance and providing a safe enclave for sensitive data such as a TPM device. Fast Encryption is available for all VM types via the VM Settings > Encryption window or during the New VM walkthrough.

Encryption Key Generation and Storage
The workstation may auto-generate a password for the user, and the local Keychain is used by default to keep the encryption key, saving the user from having to put it in every time their VM boots.

Graphics Improvements
When using OpenGL 4.3 Workstation for Windows and Linux with a Linux VM with a kernel of 5.18 or newer and Mesa 22.1.1, OpenGL now reports its version as 4.3 and OpenGL ES as 3.10.

Autostart VMs Workstation includes a function that launches user-defined virtual machines when the PC boots.
