The newest Windows OS from Microsoft is Windows 11. It was released to manufacturing on July 15, 2021, and made available to the public on October 8, 2021. Windows 11 is part of the Windows NT family of operating systems and is a successor to Windows 10.
One of the key features of Windows 11 is its support for universal apps, which are designed to work across a range of Microsoft products, including PCs, tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles. The user interface has been updated to accommodate both mouse-based and touchscreen interfaces. It includes an updated Start menu that combines elements of the traditional Start menu from Windows 7 with the tile-based interface introduced in Windows 8.
Other notable features of Windows 11 include the Microsoft Edge web browser, virtual desktops, a Task View feature for managing windows and desktops, support for biometric login methods such as fingerprint and facial recognition, enhanced security for enterprise users, and support for DirectX 12. Enterprise users can receive updates at a slower pace or use long-term support milestones that only receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their extended 10-year support period.
